Si echamos un vistazo a nuestro Facebook, parece que cada día surge una nueva tendencia con #etiqueta. Aunque, cuando nos paramos a leer, lo único nuevo es el nombre que le hemos dado en inglés. El king out, casi una reinvención del petting, es meterse mano con la ropa puesta de toda la vida y la sexdiet, la dieta del cucurucho que todos conocemos. Pues algo parecido pasa con el nuevo término de moda, hacer ghosting.

La palabra, lógicamente, proviene de ‘fantasma’. No sé si alguien más utilizaba anteriormente el término, pero entre mis amigas y yo, era muy común que cuando un chico dejaba de llamar, o no respondía a un mensaje durante días, decir que te había hecho un Casper. Lo que tiene ser de la generación de los 80 y la influencia que el cine ha tenido en nuestra vida. Vamos, que lo de hacerse el fantasma y desaparecer sin dar más explicaciones y sin saber cuál ha sido el motivo, es algo que ha pasado toda la vida.

Claro, la diferencia es que ahora la palabra tiene un matiz más tecnológico. Porque ya no te dejan de llamar, directamente te bloquean en las redes. Es decir, te eliminan como amigo en Facebook o te pasan al grupo de acceso restringido, o directamente te bloquean en Whattsapp. Algo de lo que te das cuenta cuando a esa persona nunca más le llegan tus mensajes (no tienen nunca doble check) y das por sentado que esa persona no se ha mudado a vivir a los túneles del metro, sino que te ha borrado.

Si bien desaparecer sin dar explicaciones era algo que ya pasaba, lo cierto es que no era tan sencillo como ahora. Porque solías conocerte de algo y corrías el riesgo de volver a encontrarte y tener que dar explicaciones. Ahora, sin embargo, lo más probable es que nos hayamos conocido a través de alguna red de contactos y que, con un poco de suerte, con eliminar tu perfil se resuelve el no tener que volver a verte en la vida. Aunque la vida, a veces, es un pañuelo y nos puede dar más de una sorpresa.

Por eso, parece que hacer ghosting se ha vuelto una práctica mucho más habitual. Según algunas encuestas, cerca del 80 por ciento  de los millennials dice haber sufrido ghosting alguna vez. Se podría pensar que la explicación es que, en las redes, los jóvenes solo buscan sexo fácil y que simplemente sueltan el pez después de pescarlo. Pero no, parece que esa no es lógica, ya que estos mismos estudios dicen que la mayoría se conecta a estas redes en busca de una relación seria.

La cuestión es que gracias a las redes tenemos la sensación de que hay mucho más entre lo que elegir, y que mientras encontramos o no a alguien que nos haga sentar la cabeza, podemos ir desechando sin piedad por el camino. Al fin y al cabo, cada día despersonalizamos más las relaciones. Vamos a una app, adquirimos una serie de perfiles, nos los probamos y si no nos quedan bien, los dejamos en la tienda sin más. Como si esos avatares fueran solo virtuales y detrás de los mismos no hubiera personas. Como si realmente nos costase tanto decir que simplemente no estamos interesados.

Las redes de contactos nos han permitido conocer a mucha más gente y es obvio que no todas las conversaciones que se inician, o incluso todas las citas que se tienen, van a pasar a ser una relación, bien sea sexual, sentimental o incluso de amistad. Si entramos en el juego de lo virtual, todos deberíamos aceptar que una de las reglas es que hay que saber retirarse y aceptar que la otra persona, por el motivo que sea, no quiere seguir en contacto con nosotros. Lo que no debería perderse nunca es la cortesía, el respeto y, en definitiva, la empatía con el otro. Esa ley que puede aplicarse a casi todo de “no hagas lo que no te gustaría que te hicieran”.

Porque lo virtual lo hace todo más fácil, pero también nos convierte a todos en más cobardes.
