En el Mercado de Cannes, que cierra hoy, ha habido reflexiones y choques sobre distintas corrientes artísticas y/o industriales del cine actual. Y una de las más comentadas ha sido la estereoscopía. ¿Está llegando el 3D a las cotas previstas? Con datos del IHS Screen Digest que publicó The Hollywood reporter, lo que queda claro es que es una tendencia fuerte, pero que no se va a imponer.
En Estados Unidos, en 2012 el 17% de los estrenos de películas fueron en 3D, cifra que desciende en comparación con el 18% de 2011 y el 21% de 2010. Este formato interesa sobre todo a los jóvenes en el territorio Estados Unidos + Canadá, porque en 2012 el 34% de los espectadores vieron un filme estereoscópico, pero atentos: en la franja de edad de 12 a 24 años, al menos un 50% había ido a ver una en 3D, cuando, por ejemplo, de los espectadores de más de 60 años solo el 16% se había sentado en una proyección con gafas.
En todo el mundo en 2012 había 45.545 pantallas para 3D, que significa un 27% más con respecto a 2011 y son el 51% de las pantallas digitales. Pero el crecimiento se ha detenido: ha habido años de aumentos de 255% (2009), de 149% más (2010) y de 60% (2011). Los porcentajes de salas en 3D con respecto al número total de salas son bastante parecidos en todo el mundo: en Europa, Medio Oriente y Africa hay 13.963 de 39.597 (35,3%), en Asia-Pacífico 14.219 de 37.151 (38,3%), en Estados Unidos + Canadá 14.734 sobre 42.803 (34,4%) y en Latinoamericana 2,629 sobre 10.351 (aquí baja hasta el 25,5%). Donde más recauda es en Rusia y China donde más del 36% de su taquilla procede de películas estereoscópicas.
En España había en 2012 887 salas en 3D (el 22,8% del total) y 1.608 digitales (41,4% tras haber crecido un 18% ese año) sobre un parque de 3.886, según datos de la AIMC.
En 2012 la película más taquillera en 3D fue Los vengadores, con 1.510 millones de dólares. En 2013, hasta el 14 de mayo Iron man 3 llevaba 949 millones de dólares, Oz 487, Los Croods 533, G.I. Joe 356,8 y Hansel y Gretel, 223,9 millones de dólares.
Con todo en el Mercado había varios proyectos en 3D, aunque nada comparable al revuelo que hace dos años causó un filme porno chino estereoscópico. Por ejemplo, la productora Florencia Larrea, de Kiné Imágenes, vendía la primera película de Chile en 3D, Whispers of the forest, un filme de terror con tonos sobrenaturales
